Medical Emergencies and Health Protocols

In the event of a medical emergency dial 911.  Be prepared to tell the 911 dispatcher the nature of your emergency and your exact location.  The 911 operator will contact public safety, who will contact the nurse.

The Department of Public Safety can be contacted at 607-962-9000 or by dialing '9000' from any campus phone.

Responding to a Suspected Opioid Overdose

Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is a medication that can reverse the life threatening effects of an opioid overdose.   This medication is available at various campus locations for use in this type of emergency.  For the location of these dispensers, please see the list below. The Health Office nurses are able to provide Naloxone education on request during regular office hours, or there is a video linked below.  Please contact us at 607-962-9257 or email healthoffice@corning-cc.edu with any questions.

Responding to a Suspected Seizure

There are many different types of seizures, and the visible signs of a seizure can vary greatly.  If you are with someone who loses consciousness, and you suspect a seizure it is important to first ensure that they are safe.  Unless you know the person well, and they have previously requested that you do not call EMS for an episode, then the next step after ensuring their safety should be to call 911.  For more detail please review:
